The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has firmly dismissed claims of an airspace violation, clarifying that its C-130 transport aircraft made a precautionary emergency landing in Burkina Faso on Monday due to a detected technical issue, not deliberate incursion, as alleged by the Confederation of Sahel States (AES).
In a statement issued Tuesday by Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF emphasized the diversion followed “standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols.” The aircraft, en route to Portugal for a ferry mission, encountered the fault shortly after takeoff from Lagos on December 8, prompting an immediate landing at Bobo-Dioulasso Airfield the nearest safe option.
“Following takeoff from Lagos, the crew observed a technical concern which necessitated a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, the nearest airfield,” Ejodame stated. “NAF crew is safe and have received cordial treatment from the host authorities.
