Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has remarked that Mrs. Julie Olatunji, retired Permanent Secretary, made significant contributions to the transformation of the Edo State civil service. The statement emphasizes Mrs. Olatunji’s impact on the governor personally, highlighting the confidence she instilled in him regarding the potential for positive change in Nigeria. This sentiment speaks to her effectiveness as a leader and her ability to inspire confidence in those around her.
Obaseki said this during a send-off party attended by colleagues, politicians, friends, and government officials, noting the high regard and respect Mrs. Olatunji commands among various sectors.
The governor’s acknowledgment of her as a “crowd puller” is an eloquent testimony that she has not only excelled professionally but has also garnered significant support and admiration from a wide range of people.
“I knew three months ago she will retire and I am sure I will have issues when she retires. So, I asked the new Permanent Secretary to understudy her to make sure there is no gap in my office when she leaves.
“So much has been said about Mrs. Olatunji and these give confidence that we still have people in this country that can make Nigeria work. Civil servants are to serve the people.
“She is leaving the service of Edo State as one of the greatest transformational agents that the civil service has produced. She came in 35 years ago as an analog worker but she is leaving as a digital permanent secretary. It tells you whoever is good is good.
“All of us in Edo State appreciate you for what you have done for the civil servants, family, politicians, all you have interacted with. The crowd here tells the good you do live after you and Mrs. Olatunji’s life should be an example to us all.
Mrs. Olatunji said to succeed in the civil/public service, one has to be a team player and a good leader, carrying everybody along.
“I feel fulfilled and have a sense of high achievement. Put self aside and consider general interest as that is the only way you can achieve a lot. You have to be a team player, a good leader and carry everyone along.”
The testimonial remarks made by Governor Obaseki is a reflection of his appreciation for Mrs. Julie Olatunji’s contributions and especially characterizing her as a transformative figure within the Edo State civil service.
