The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria that invalidated the party’s November 2025 National Convention, while announcing steps to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and restore unity within the opposition party.
The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an expanded emergency meeting of the PDP BoT held on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 10 and 11, 2026.

Presenting the communiqué, the Chairman of the BoT, Adolphus Wabara, said the board disagreed with the court’s ruling which nullified the November 15–16, 2025 National Convention that produced the National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
According to Wabara, the board is currently awaiting legal advice from the party’s lawyers on the appropriate next steps regarding the judgment.

The BoT also expressed concern over the internal leadership disputes and litigations within the party, noting that the crisis has had damaging consequences on the unity and effective functioning of the PDP as the country’s major opposition party.
Despite its disagreement with the ruling, the board acknowledged the reconciliation window provided by the appellate court and resolved to explore it in order to resolve the leadership crisis.

“The Board acknowledges and resolves to explore the window provided by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division for reconciliation within the party,” the communiqué stated.
The trustees further noted that the internal crisis must be resolved quickly to safeguard the aspirations of party members preparing to contest positions in the 2027 general elections.

The BoT emphasized its constitutional responsibility as the conscience of the party and the third-highest leadership organ of the PDP, pledging to take immediate steps to reconcile stakeholders, end disputes and restore stability within the party.
As part of the resolutions, the board announced the constitution of a special committee tasked with engaging the party’s legal teams and other stakeholders to facilitate reconciliation.

The trustees also acknowledged what they described as growing public support for the PDP, citing the ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise which they said has attracted millions of new members daily across the country.
The BoT called on party leaders and members to set aside personal and group interests and work together in the collective interest of the party and Nigerians.

It also commended the efforts of PDP governors, particularly Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, for their commitment to the party and national development.
In addition, the board approved the appointment of Muazu Babangida Aliyu as the Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees, in accordance with Section 32 of the party’s constitution.

The BoT concluded by urging Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring that the PDP is working to reposition itself to reclaim power and rescue the country from what it described as the “stranglehold” of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
