The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an initiative to introduce 15 skill acquisition programs into the curriculum of Primary and Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) marks a significant step toward enhancing the basic level employment market.
By integrating practical skill-based education from Primary 1 through JSS 3, students will have the opportunity to gain both theoretical and hands-on knowledge over a nine-year period, beginning in the 2025 academic year.

The aim is to equip students with employable skills early on, fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
Here are the 15 skills that will be part of the curriculum:
- Plumbing
- Tiling and Floor Works
- POP Installation
- Event Decoration and Management
- Bakery and Confectioneries
- Hairstyling
- Makeup
- Interior Design
- GSM Repairs
- Satellite/TV Antenna Installation
- CCTV, Intercom Installation, and Maintenance
- Solar Installation and Maintenance
- Garment Making
- Agriculture and Processing (including crop production, beekeeping, horticulture, sheep and goat farming, poultry, and rabbit farming)
- Basic Digital Literacy (IT and Robotics)

In order to hasten the process of implementation of this initiative, teachers in both public and private schools across Nigeria will undergo extensive training and retraining to ensure effective delivery of the skill courses.
This approach is expected to help bridge the skills gap in the Nigerian labor market and reduce unemployment by fostering practical, job-ready abilities among young students from an early age.
