The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of five suspects linked to notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji over alleged terrorism financing and other related offences.

The ruling followed an ex-parte application by the prosecution, represented by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice. The suspects, whose identities have not been publicly disclosed, are accused of providing financial and logistical support to Turji’s bandit network, which has been responsible for widespread kidnappings, killings, and attacks in the North-West, particularly Zamfara and Sokoto states.

Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the matter, granted the warrant after the prosecution argued that the suspects had evaded arrest despite repeated invitations and were likely to flee the country or tamper with evidence.

The bench warrant empowers security agencies, including the DSS, Police, and military, to arrest the suspects wherever they may be found and bring them before the court.

This development is part of the ongoing multi-agency crackdown on terrorism financing and banditry in Nigeria. Bello Turji, a key figure in the Turji-led syndicate, remains at large with a multi-million naira bounty on his head.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned once apprehended, facing charges under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.
