Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has apologised to Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, months after a disagreement surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Surulere Constituency I.
In a video circulating on Monday, September 14, Elliot was seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila as he asked for forgiveness and expressed regret over his actions during the political dispute.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse. I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry,” Elliot said in the video, while appealing for forgiveness.
The development comes months after the APC primary for Surulere Constituency I, where Elliot had initially sought the party’s ticket for a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Ahead of the May 20 primary, Elliot withdrew from the exercise, alleging that some of his supporters had been intimidated and prevented from participating. He later rejected the outcome of the election and said he would challenge the process through the party’s internal appeal mechanism.

The primary was eventually won by Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who polled 11,385 votes, while Elliot recorded 270 votes. Odunuga-Bakare was widely reported to have the backing of Gbajabiamila.
Elliot’s latest apology signals an attempt to put the disagreement behind him and rebuild his relationship with the APC leadership in Lagos.
Reports on the video also indicate that Elliot expressed his willingness to accept the outcome of the Surulere contest and reaffirm his loyalty to the party leadership in Lagos.
Gbajabiamila responded to Elliot’s appeal by asking him to stand up, after which the two were seen embracing.
The gesture comes at a time when political relationships and alliances within the Lagos APC continue to attract attention ahead of the 2027 elections.
