This is a huge win for women, men, and sanity in the UK and the West worthy of acceptation by all. Now every country needs to get onboard and recognize in law what is a woman. Congratulations to UK women!

According to the sensible ruling, the UK law defines a “woman” as someone born biologically female and will only recognize that biological fact. The ruling upheld an appeal by a Scottish group that challenged the legal recognition of transgender women.

The issue concerned whether a transgender woman with a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) can be treated as a woman under the 2010 Equality Act with the Scottish government arguing that transgenders are entitled to sex-based protections, while campaign group For Women Scotland (FWS) argued that the definition of a woman can only apply to someone born biologically born a female.

‘The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological woman and biological sex.’

The ruling therefore means that even if a transgender person has a certificate recognizing them as female, still they will not be considered woman under equality law, henceforth.

The unanimous decision of the five-member Supreme Court panel led by Lord Hodge ruled that ‘the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act refer to a ‘biological woman and biological sex’.

However, the apex court stated that trans people could legally enjoy protection against discrimination. The landmark judgement is expected to expand the contentious definition and shape the conversation on how sex-based rights should apply, especially sharing public spaces and common facilities among identified genders.
