The Accident Prevention and Rescue Initiative (APRI) has commended the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mallam Mohammed Bello for his foresight and support for the current administration of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, DRTS, Federal Capital Territory.

APRI in a press release made available to newsmen in Abuja, and signed by its Executive Director, Prince Fidelis Nnadi, described the massive support the DRTS is enjoying under the watch of the FCT Minister as worthy of emulation by other states’ governors.

Prince Fidelis Nnadi noted that road crashes associated with deaths and injuries have reduced drastically in FCT owing to the proactive activities of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services under the leadership of Dr. Bello Abdul-Lateef who has transformed the Directorate in achieving effective road traffic regulations enforcement and compliance in FCT.

“We have observed that FCT roads are being effectively monitored with Road Traffic Officers of the Territory ensuring compliance of FCT road traffic regulations by motorists,” Nnadi said.

Commenting further on the implementation and enforcement of the Special Trade License Regulation of FCT, Prince Fidelis Nnadi urged those affected by the regulation to ensure compliance as the regulation is part of measures aimed at strengthening the integrity of Vehicle Inspection where vehicle roadworthiness and certification with the safety of vehicle occupants can be assured thereby complementing the objectives of the United Nations Decade of Action 2030 which directs member States to ensure reduction of road crash deaths and injuries by 50 percent.

“Safety of road users should be a priority of the government,” Nnadi said.
