Residents said the meeting was arranged in an attempt to ease tensions between local communities and armed groups that have repeatedly attacked villages across the region. However, gunmen allegedly stormed the gathering and seized dozens of attendees before taking them into nearby forest areas.
Security authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims and track down those responsible for the attack. Some released captives were reportedly sent back to inform families and community leaders about ransom demands issued by the abductors.
