Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has dispelled rumors of a budding truce with Senate leadership, insisting her invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and fellow lawmakers for the inauguration of constituency projects in Kogi State is a “standard legislative protocol” rather than a personal olive branch amid their frosty history.

In a statement released Friday, the senator marking her second year in office described the gesture as “customary and procedural for such occasions,” emphasizing her adherence to Senate norms even amid ongoing court battles over her March suspension. “Even with ongoing court cases, I continue to carry out my duties in the chamber and follow proper procedures. That notification was part of the procedure,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said, underscoring her commitment to “inclusive governance and transparency.”

The invitation letter, personally signed by the senator and read aloud by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary, announced the event for Sunday, November 2, in Ihima, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. It detailed a meeting point at her residence (Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street) and logistics for air arrivals via Obajana Airstrip, followed by road to the site. Akpabio’s warm response “Congratulations in advance” drew applause and smiles across the chamber, with Akpoti-Uduaghan later noting some colleagues “laughed at the irony” while others “wiped tears,” and the Senate President himself “smiled genuinely.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s clarification comes weeks after her dramatic return from a six-month suspension imposed on March 6, 2025, following a February 20 clash with Akpabio over seating rearrangements in the chamber. The altercation escalated when she accused him of sexual harassment a claim he denied and branded his leadership “dictatorial,” prompting the Senate’s Ethics Committee to recommend her ouster. Though reinstated in late September, she faced delays in regaining her office until mid-October, fueling speculation of unresolved animosity.

The senator framed the event as a milestone showcase of her “Renewed Hope” deliverables, including a mega empowerment program on November 2 featuring electric vehicle distributions, skill acquisition kits, and scholarships for over 5,000 constituents. “This is about public service, not personal recognition,” she added, aligning the invitation with her post-suspension contributions, such as sponsoring the National Centre for Autism Bill 2025 during Thursday’s plenary.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, elected in 2023 on the PDP platform after a bruising tribunal battle, highlighted these as “tangible impacts” despite her suspension’s disruptions. “Kogi Central deserves no less,” she affirmed.

Analysts view it as savvy optics in President Tinubu’s inclusive Senate, echoing recent defections in Enugu and Zamfara. As Akpoti-Uduaghan hosts the event regardless of attendees it reaffirms her focus: Delivery over drama, even as court dates loom.
