A total of 269 Nigerians returned home on Tuesday aboard a chartered flight from South Africa, marking the third batch of returnees in the ongoing repatriation exercise.
The flight landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 10:48 a.m.
This latest group brings the total number of officially evacuated Nigerians in recent weeks to over 593.

Breakdown of Batches
First Batch: 258 evacuees arrived on June 11 aboard a chartered Air Peace flight.
Second Batch: 66 returnees arrived on June 24, facilitated by a “good-spirited Nigerian” identified as Kunle Soname, Chairman and CEO of ValueJet.
Third Batch: 269 returnees arrived today.
The returnees were escorted by officials of the Nigerian Mission in South Africa and received at the airport by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Haruna Ali-Gombe, Director of the African Affairs Department.

Dipo Onabowale, head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in Lagos, was also present to receive the returnees.
The evacuation exercise was triggered after South African rights groups issued a June 30 deadline for undocumented migrants to leave the country.
Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the process remains on course, with more flights expected in the coming days to evacuate all Nigerians who have been screened and cleared for voluntary return.

He noted that the Federal Government has so far paid for five repatriation flights.
“The evacuation process is still on course and more flights are expected in the country in the next few days to evacuate all Nigerians that have been screened and cleared to voluntarily return to the country,” Ebienfa stated.
The Ministry said the Federal Government will continue to engage South African authorities at the highest levels to ensure the protection and welfare of Nigerian nationals still residing in South Africa.

The latest arrivals are expected to undergo necessary documentation and reintegration processes upon arrival.
