The development comes amid a deepening leadership crisis within the PDP, which has split into factions. One faction is led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, with the backing of Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed. The opposing faction, which released the timetable, is led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and supported by Wike.
The crisis has triggered multiple legal battles, with cases from both factions currently pending in court. At the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Wednesday, justices reserved judgment in one of the disputes, stating that a date for the ruling would be communicated to the parties.

Analysts say the parallel processes within the PDP could further complicate its preparations for the 2027 elections, especially if the leadership dispute remains unresolved. The situation also raises questions about which faction will ultimately be recognised by INEC, a decision that could shape the party’s electoral prospects.
